Thank you for your interest in using Dr. Lewenberg's Formulas to help your patients. Dr. Lewenberg's Formulas are liquid solutions containing 2% Minoxidil and 0.025% Tretinoin (All-Trans Retinoic Acid). Dr. Lewenberg's Formulas are effective for all forms of hair loss where the follicles remain alive and even damaged hair follicles can be repaired, so long as the matrix with the stem cell cluster and surrounding structures are intact.
For many patients, the prospect of losing their hair during chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy is devastating and some even go as far as to avoid treatment. Dr. Lewenberg's Formulas can be used within a week of patients undergoing cancer treatment; they can be used before, after, or even in between such treatments. Minoxidil has been used for years as a standard treatment for hair loss. Tretinoin builds upon this by tripling the absorption of Minoxidil, reducing the production of and effects of DHT and other androgens, and by regulating cell growth and immunolocalization. In cases where hair loss was caused solely by chemotherapy, patients would use one of Dr. Lewenberg's Formulas for 3 to 6 month to regrow their hair more quickly and fully. Patients with pre-existing hair loss would need to a longer program of treatment and followed by maintenance. Use of selective estrogen receptor modulators like Tamoxifen, or Aromatase Inhibitors like Arimidex and Femara, block the effects of the production of estrogen, often causing hormonal hair loss in women and even men who are predisposed to Androgenic Alopecia. As in all cases of Androgenic Alopecia, patients would use Dr. Lewenberg's Formula 4 times a day to regrow their hair, and then once daily to maintain it.
Fears of hair loss also interfere with treatment of depression, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. While hair loss from many drugs can be reduced, it is often an unavoidable outcome. Fortunately, patients can use Dr. Lewenberg's Formula to regrow and, if necessary, maintain their hair. Because Dr. Lewenberg's Formula contain Tretinoin, they are contraindicated for patients with severely compromised liver functions, as well as for those whose hair loss was caused by Vasanoid®, Accutane® or other Retinoid and vitamin A derivatives. Similarly, because Dr. Lewenberg's Formulas contain Minoxidil patients must be monitored if they take medication for tachycardia or if they have damaged kidneys.
Dr. Lewenberg's Formula can also be used to improve the quality of a hair transplant. Those patients, who have lost a significant amount of hair, can regrow some or most of this hair. At the same time, the health of the scalp and donor hair can be improved.
This allows for a more successful transplant. Dr. Lewenberg's Formula can be used after a patient has healed from a transplant to grow more hair quickly and then to maintain it.
Dr. Lewenberg's Formula can be used to treat many autoimmune related hair loss conditions, either by itself or in conjunction with topical steroids. Dr. Lewenberg has treated many patients with Alopecia Areata, even those who have been unsuccessful with more conventional treatments. Similarly, Dr. Lewenberg's Formula can be used to treat hair loss from Lupus and psoriasis.
